Los Cabos, Mexico
The Westin Los Cabos Resort Villas & Spa
Why vacation in a simple hotel room when you can spread out in a luxurious, well-appointed villa? Don't bother answering because I'm about to tell you everything you need to know.
After undergoing extensive renovations before a grand re-opening celebration in the summer of 2017, The Westin Los Cabos Resort Villas & Spa now features more than 200 villas of varying sizes, from studio spaces to 1,486-square-foot two-bedroom ocean-view compounds. All rooms include a kitchenette (in case you're crazy and like to cook on vacation), plus Westin's signature Heavenly Beds and Heavenly Bath dual-head showers. Some even include private, furnished balconies and private jacuzzis for unparalleled relaxation opportunities. Not to mention adults-only quality time.
During high tourist season (typically fall and spring), you're likely to find more children here than other times, but the sprawling resort offers plenty of adult escapes. Booking travel when kids return to school also ups the grown-up ante. Nestled in the rocks with mountains in one direction and crashing waves in the other, this property offers some of the most spectacular views in Baja California Sur. Be aware that the ocean at this particular spot can be extremely rough, so you might experience a look-but-don't-touch situation. For me, that's no big deal because I'm all about an ocean view while sipping a margarita in a pool. Thankfully, that's an option. —Steven Lindsey

5 Reasons to Visit The Westin Los Cabos
Adult Pool with Swim-up Bar
Spending an entire day at the Margarita Pool can happen easily. (Don't judge me.) Featuring a swim-up bar and oceanview ledges for sipping everything from margaritas to micheladas, this pool feels miles away from the more high-energy pools. And unlike some resorts, they're strict about keeping kids out. |
Spacious, Multi-room Oceanfront Villas
Traveling with friends or couples can make for a more affordable vacation when booking a two-bedroom premium villa. Surprisingly, the price of the two-bedroom space versus a simple deluxe room is often only about $30 more per night. Everyone gets their own room to sleep while getting the fun, social aspect that comes with a dining room and living room. |
Spa Otomí
Guests under 16 cannot use the spa facilities, so consider this another safe haven for adult time. Treatment prices ring up less than most American resorts, but they're higher than most spas in Mexico. Convenience makes for an easy compromise, however. Men's and women's locker rooms feature a dry sauna and steam room, too. Adjacent to the spa you'll find a well-equipped fitness center. Plus, for a mere $5 a day you can take advantage of the WestinWORKOUT gear-lending program, which includes brand-new socks, New Balance shoes and freshly cleaned workout apparel. |
Sunsets
You've probably noticed that sunrises and sunsets appear on nearly every oceanfront property review. But I can't stress it enough. When staying near the beautiful surf, you're missing out on a truly breathtaking experience by not taking in the sky's every colorful, dramatic moment possible. Here, you can sit on your balcony, spread out on the beach, or have dinner and drinks from the multiple restaurants and bars with Pacific and Sea of Cortez views. |
The Best Damn Shrimp Tacos on the Planet!
I eat a lot of shrimp tacos. Like so many that I should've grown a crunchy tail by now. Therefore, I consider myself to be a shrimp taco aficionado of sorts and challenge anyone on earth to create a better version than the ones I had at Coralline, the resort's casual beachfront cafe overlooking the Sea of Cortez. The shrimp tacos were the first meal I had of the vacation and the last because I wanted one last taste to keep my sensory memories as sharp as possible. If only Uber Eats would deliver from Los Cabos. |
