New Orleans | The Country Club
The only thing more decadent than the city of New Orleans is being naked in public in the city of New Orleans. Sadly, if you're a fan of letting it all hang out, The Country Club is no longer clothing-optional. But it's still an oasis of adultness worth the break away from the French Quarter for an afternoon, especially during the sweltering, humid days of summer.
One of the things I love most is the inclusiveness of this Bywater escape. Whether you're gay, straight or somewhere in the vast spectrum in between, you'll feel welcome at this nonstop party spot. You can visit simply to dine and drink indoors, but the real Big Easy charm can be found neck-deep in the water of the large, inviting pool. No kids screaming. No entitled tourists. Simply one of my favorite places in all of NOLA. - Steven Lindsey

5 Reasons to Visit The Country Club
An over-21 haven
Sure, I've already mentioned this above and you've already seen the 100% kid-free icon, but it's worth repeating. And even in a sin-filled city like New Orleans, where strollers clog Bourbon Street on a daily basis, it's refreshing that nobody under 21 can enter. Ever. |
Get your grub on
Lunch. Dinner. Snacktime by the pool. Weekend brunch. Whenever you're here and hungry, the kitchen has what you crave. Crab-stuffed beignets, fried Gulf oysters, crispy whole fish and duck-fat roasted chicken can all be found on the menu. Happy hour specials can be had daily from 4-7 p.m. (or anytime it rains!) |
The heat is on
In addition to the main pool, which is heated in the winter and chilled in the summer, you can rest those weary bones and muscles in the secluded hot tub tucked away in a lush tropical setting. There's also free Wifi if you're the type who likes to work while relaxing. Or relax while you work. |
But it's a dry heat
The sauna house isn't exactly the way I like to sweat out all the Hurricanes and frozen margaritas we've consumed at the bar, but I know plenty of people who never turn down the opportunity to take time to stop and smell the cedar. |
Men's & women's locker rooms
Lather. Rinse. Store your stuff. Repeat. Whether you're looking to shower off after a day in the sun or simply lock away your valuables so you don't have to worry about who might get access to your private camera roll, separate gender-specific facilities give you peace of mind. And a comfy place to poop. |
