San Antonio, TX
JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa
Everything's bigger in Texas. (Including the name of this resort!) So if you're on the hunt for a place to live, lounge and luxuriate in epic proportions, this relatively secluded property outside San Antonio has a little something for everyone—including a lot of somethings for adults. Sweeping Hill Country views make for great backdrops no matter where you find yourself onsite, from the multiple restaurants and outdoor water features to the duo of championship golf courses and the balconies of the guest rooms. Nearby trails let you create your own adventure (perfect for strolling early mornings with coffee in-hand), or simply let the JW Marriott staff pamper you from sunrise to sunset. One of the best things about a giant resort like this is that kids have plenty to keep them occupied while adults can retreat to designated areas for a little peace and quiet. And maybe a little tequila, too. -Steven Lindsey

5 Reasons to Visit JW Marriott San Antonio
Riverbluff's Adult Pool
While the children frolic in the adjacent water park, slipping, sliding and splashing the day away, I found the adult-only pool (and jacuzzi) a nice escape from chaos. The only downside is the pool's location right next to kiddie areas, but early mornings and late evenings are decidedly more tranquil. |
Spirit Trail Tasting
Guests over the age of 21 can indulge in a very adult activity, which I like to think of as a grown-up scavenger hunt. Grab a Spirit Trail map and work your way from one food-and-beverage venue to another to sample the signature booze at each location. One specialized in beer, another fine wine, others dole out plenty of tequila and whisky. The best part is you can complete the trail entirely on your own schedule, in one afternoon or spread over your entire stay. |
Two 18-hole Championship Golf Courses
The only clubs I know anything about are sandwiches and the type of soda I mix with vodka. But for golf aficionados, this resort boasts not one but two sprawling courses designed by legends of the sport, Greg Norman and Pete Dye. Big-time tournaments use these courses during the year, too, because they're just that challenging. Not to mention look great on TV. |
Lantana Spa
Unlike the adult pool where you'll sometimes hear the screams and laughter of nearby children, you'd be hard-pressed to find anything at this harmonious oasis on the other side of the resort. All amenities, including separate men's and women's wet areas with hot tub, sauna, steam room and shower facilities are for guests 18 and over. The spa's outdoor pool and hot tub, too, are kid-free zones perfect for soaking up some sun—or shade—in total serenity. |
Dining Experiences
With eight dining venues, from a full-service Starbucks for that morning caffeine fix to a fine-dining steakhouse, there's really no reason to ever leave the resort, especially if only visiting for a long weekend. Whether you prefer to dine poolside, on one of the many patios throughout the property, or in a cozy booth tucked away in a corner, you'll find every type of cuisine you crave. Even healthy bites, if that's the way you choose to vacation. (I'm more of a deep-fried everything and dessert at each and every meal kind of traveler myself.) |
